Livorsi GPS Antenna Help

I have the Smart GPS 44gm brand of antenna that came with the Livorsi GPS Speedo that runs off a internal battery. This battery went dead, I tried to replace it after reading a thread on the boards but ended up ruining it. Is there an aftermarket antenna that I can buy that will be less money then what Livorsi is for a new one? I need the model that has three wires to go on the studs of the speedo. Also if someone has a used one or even one with a dead battery I will take another shot at installing a new battery now that I know what I did wrong on the first attempt. Thanks in advance!

You can get a new Garmin GPS 17x antenna for $110.00 if you look on the net. This should work. I just ordered one and I'll let you know. This is a much better option than $75 for a a battery replacement from Livorsi.

You cannot send in an antenna to Livorsi for ($75)a new battery now. I just talked to them and you have to ship them your old antenna. They then will send you a new antenna with either a battery or the new style that does not need a battery. Sucks cause I was quoted about $200 for a replacement antenna. They could not tell me over the phone if my GPS with work with the new style antenna , so I had to ship them the GPS head as well. The other reason you cannot just install a new battery is because the antenna has to be calibrated or something. I had a new battery same as in the antenna and installed it myself and GPS still did nt work. Livorsi told me that they send out the battery type antennas for calibration. They do not do it in house.

Just bought a garmin 18x from amazon for $80. I don't know how livorsi gets away selling there gps for hundreds!

I would like to do the same so I don't have to give Livosi any more of my money for what I feel is a bad design. My question is what model did you use? Is it working good? I wanted to use the 18xLVC so I could put my own connectors on it but in the specs it states input voltage at 5 volts. I was wondering if you used that one and it is ok with 12 volts or did you use the 18x-PC with the 12 volt cigarette lighter adapter? Hope this makes sense. I have included a link with all three models.

If you have a GPS with a NMEA 0183 output in your boat already, just wire the speedo to the GPS and throw the antenna in the garbage.

I don't have another GPS in the boat. I have a Livorsi analog Speedo with a dead battery in the hockey puck and was looking for an alternative antenna. It sounded like 502ss had the same problem and found an alternate repair. His PM's are full, so I thought I would ask here. Thanks, Scott

I have one of those, I tried it on my speedo and it didn't work, bought a Hardin marine and it didn't work. Come to find out the speedo was bad. I'll sell you the one I have a for $90.00 shipped. It was pulled out of the box hooked up and put back in the box. Nice thing with the garmin is it can be mounted UNDER the dash.
