One thing your over looking in this upgrade is plan on buying a drive. With either application even a XR drive won't last long with the torque a Whipple makes. Let alone the X drve your boat has. My .02

Drives breaking are more related to an operator rather than power but that's my 02:drink: |
Another thing you need to investigate if you go with the Raylar heads they increase the compression and I believe it's too much compression to run a Whipple setup on.

Raising compression on any engine with cylinder head changes is somewhat predicated on how the new head handles combustion temperatures and the burn in the head of the various fuel types it will run. We have built Raylar cylinder head equipped Whipple supercharged engine with fantastic results and no problems as well as many of our customers have done the same with no problems.
The simple answer is also that good heads help breathing, better breathing makes more power,supercharged or normally asspirated as long as the boost is adjusted on a supercharged engine for the drop that better breathing delivers. Obviously with the supercharging premium 91 octane or better fuel is required but the added compression of our great aluminum cylinder head if kept in the 8.0 to 9.5 compression ratio is very workable. Putting our heads on a stock Merc 496 and supercharging it in our opionion is an absolute NO NO! Best Regards, Ray @ Raylar |
