Cats?

Have V hull boat now and currently thinking of moving to a cat. How do 30 ft cats handle 2-4 chop and stability at 80-90mph. Dad's buddy had 19' pickle fork he flipped a few years ago. I assume the handling characteristics are different?

Have heard they run well in those conditions and even more. Maybe Pm fireboatpilot on the board here. I believe he has had both and near the size cat your asking about.

I have owned a stv Euro 18' and I currently own a 19' hydrostream HST and a 28' Profile cat. There is no comparison between the 28 and the little ones. I have not once had a blow-over scare in the 28...the little tunnels I have had pointing to jesus many times! However, I would be more concerned about stuffing the big cat than blowing over.

Do people stuff them regularly?

I've owned a 21 eliminator and 31 chris cat, both 100+ mph boats. No comparison between the 2. The eliminator was easy to stuff, the chris cat would just walk across the top of the waves once it started packing air.
That being said, people going from a V hull to a 100mph+ cat is probably the cause of cat insurance rates these days. Check around, I doubt you'll even be able to get insurance without prior experience in a cat.

I love my cat (30 spectre)
Had an 18 Talon that was a blast on weekdays but wouldnt take it out on the weekends with the doctors and lawyers with there big boat wakes.

On the other hand, i was in south Florida last weekend on a 31 Contender and glad the cat was at home.

I think it just depends on what kind of boating u plan on doing.

Hell i would even ride with Beak Boater on his Fountain if ever invited...
