Intercom's
I am looking at purchasing an intercom system, I am looking for advise. Tiger Performance, or Piratecom?
pirate is much cheaper, but is the savings worth it? I do not race competitively. I just want to be able to listen to music and talk with my passengers without screaming or turning up the stereo. I ran with my ANR's and Ipod and loved it but the head set didn't stay on all that well. Boat should run 115mph. So looking for some options. feel free to vote in the poll and or give your opinion on other options. Also if anyone has a used set I might be willing to buy used. Thanks |
Black and white...and I have owned both. Tiger is a high end stereo based system. Piratecom is a low end mono system that functions for communication, but is marginal while running with tunes. Both work, but you get what you pay for. We never did get the phone on my BlackBerry to interface with Piratecom. Think about what is really going to be the primary use. Nothing is going to be great if you are not behind an effective windscreen as you compete with the wind. It is also hard to keep the headphones stationary above 75-80MPH.

Have the tiger system on a boat the run about 75. Still hear alittle wind noise but were happy with them. The headsets seem to say on very well in rough water and at that speed.

Thanks, looks like Tiger. Is there anything out there that works above 100? I see race boats with them, wonder what they are using? If I am going to spend 5K, i would like them to work and not blow off.
Any advise is appreciated |
I know it's not mentioned but my buddy has Revolution, it took him a lil to get it dialed in but they sound great! Still tough to get them from moving at 90...

Most race boats have the intercom built into the helmets. This eliminates the wind noise and blow off.

I have the Piretcoms in our Sonic. They work good just little wind noise over 70 but i think at 100 they will be noisy. I wish i could find out.:coolcowboy:

I wonder if ear buds would be better than head sets? Talking to the crew would be nice but listening to the tunes would be nice. I think they make ANR buds. I still like the Tiger setup but @ near $4,000 thats a lot to talk to people. But i dont want to spend $2,500 for pirate and be unhappy.... Decissions...

Intercom Help
There are approximately 5 systems being used in off shore. Tiger, Pirate, Racing Communications, David Clark and Comzilla (previously Comp Comm). Tiger and David Clark will be the most expensive. Not hugely familiar with Pirate. They/we all believe in our systems. Comzilla is the only US made unit of the group that I know of. Take a look at www.comzilla.com. Just make sure to make an educated decision on whatever you buy.

I have the 5 person Piratecom system in my Sonic and am very happy with it. As stated earlier they are very easy to install and simple to use. Both of the owners are engineers and designed the system to be just like you are standing around talking and listening to music. I believe that they have also come out with a wireless headset set-up as well.

Anthony 1-732-921-3355 On another topic, hope to see you at the run this weekend. I know its not organized but there will be a lot of boats and should be a fun time. The guys wanted to go without insurance thats why just the BBQ, if I didnt step up there would not be a band... i really think its going to be a good time. Intercomguy, Wish you posted a month ago I would have gave you a shot.. |
how do the pirates work Don?

Still working on them, the voice is good, I need to hook to another stereo output, I plugged into my Ipod same not very loud. jay @ Pirate was very fast to call me back and customer service has been 100%. He said I need to hook to speaker outs, that will boost the volume. I just need to get to it. he said it should help the VOX also. the front headsets are voice activated and we need to turn the squelch up pretty high to keep the wind noise from activating it, but then need to yell to activate. I may get push t talks all around. That would solve it for sure. I will let you know how it goes. But without a doubt great customer service. I have to say we will get it figured out and it will be 100%. It is nice to have them for sure at under 70mph the squelch is set low and normal conversations are the norm, very nice. I should be able to report next week when I get a chance to hook them up correctly. The marina has been so busy I haven't a chance to do anything.

Let us know if you figure out how to rig your iPod with the Piratecom volume control headphones and get stereo. We rigged our voice with PTT.
