can i use a automotive water pump for circulation?
my circulation pump kicked the bucket last night and was gonna go grab a automotive one from the parts store so i can get out on the water. will this work? will it work for long? i know they use stainless parts inside the marine ones but does that just mean the automotive one is just not gonna last as long?

the seal on the automotive pump wont last as long, but it might get you by for a while, i know some marine setups the water pump turns backwards so you would need a straight blade instead of a curved blade impellor, to be a bidirectional pump. check your pump rotation

I got about a season out of one in brackish water, the rear plate rusted through after that.

If you are closed cooled, why not.
Your car is closed cooled. Ken |
Take the stainless back plate off of the marine pump and put it on the automotive pump. It'll last for quite a while.

i ordered a marine one but if it doesnt show by friday i am going to the parts store. this is good info for the future when me or a friend blow one out on a holiday weekend :). thank god i figured this out the weekend before a holiday!

i used one on my dads ski boat used in brackish river. 3 years going strong.

I run one on my std rotation engine, but closed system(in antifreeze) just like a car..works fine, the other just went this past weekend and it has to be a bi-directional, ordered one from epower new $90, so with raw water cooling would not use one..Rob
