Alarm Sounding

1997 Baja 240 with Mercruiser 454

When key is turned on (not running) it sounds a a loud continuous alarm.

After much searching I find it is related to the oil sensor located at the bottom rear port side where oil is routed to the remote filter from.

When I unplug the lead to this sensor it shuts down the alarm.

Does this indicated a bad sensor or is there something else controling this beyond the sensor?

Thanks in advance

It sounds like your alarm system could be working. Our Merc alarm was looped from senders set to detect high water temp and low oil pressure. Additional sensors can be added to monitor other temps or pressures. When you turn on the ignition, there should be a 10-30 sec (can't remember) delay before the alarm sounds. This is so it doesn't drive you crazy every time you turn the key to start the engine but allows you to test that the alarm system is functioning.

The boat is new to me and and I thought it was suppose to sound a few times or pause. Just want to make sure it is correct, if so sure is anoying.

Both friends Baja's have a series of short ones.

Picked it up last week and just going through it in hopes to avoid ant issues this weekend.

Like said before should be a little delay then oil pressure alarm goes off because there is no oil pressure.

Thanks!

I just picked it up and getting familiar with it. Owner was widow and knew nothing about it. Was looking for an Outlaw but came across this with 300 hours and bought it for $12K so couldn't pass it up.
