engine hatch lift
The hydrolic engine hatch lift works perfectly fine on the trailer.
Get on the water, and it doesn't work right the majority of the time, and doesn't work at all the rest of the time. This weekend I got it up, but it wouldn't go back down. I had to end up un latching it, and manually lift it and close it. I can hear the motor turning, but sounds like the gears aren't meshing. Just went to look at it, and it works fine up and down again on the trailer? Its not aligned perfectly, but I'm not sure if that matters, it kinda bounces once it gets to the half way point. Any thoughts? |
loose grond wire? easy place to start

Thanks I'll double check it, but I know its getting power. I can hear the motor turning, but the actual hydrolic ram doesn't move. Sounds like its just spinning on the inside. Again, it only does this on the water. Works fine on the trailer.

I feel like an idiot.
The housing that screws onto the motor was loose, thus not letting the gears mesh all the way. Not sure how I didn't notice that on the water. Or how I had to cut the wires, and put it on the bench first before i noticed it. Tightened it up. cleaned it up, was getting ready to paint it, then noticed I had some left over stainless steel cooling hose cover. Fits perfectly. 2 red hose clamps, and it looks pretty good, for not costing me anything. Hooked it all back up. Works like a champ, and sounds better too. Guess I'll find out after I get it back on teh water, but I am pretty sure that was the problem. |
