stepping The hull

On older off shore boats, like the formulas is it possible to step the hull like the new ones?

Would this cause structural problems, and if its possible would it be worth it?

Sure, go right ahead:greenchainsaw::confused:

Come on bill..it's fiberglass, anything is possible. But if your not a good glassman it's going to cost you mucho dinero

TexomaPowerboater 06-07-2010 01:20 PM

Not worth it IMO.

I maintain it's not possible. CG's change etc etc etc. I think you'd be nuts to attempt that. AND can you imagine what that would cost??

If you want a stepped boat, buy one that came from the mold that way.

Bring me an old formula and Bill Gates checkbook and I will make you one hell of a boat.......

there was a fountain 33 that started life as a straight bottom boat but GREAT LAKECASTERS I think it was after a few seasons racing and to run against harry in his OUTERLIMITS 37 and Phantom 34 both stepped bottom they stepped there boat so there is at least ONE:eek: that was done but your right about cg being reset it would be cheaper to buy a newer hull. you just need to make more power or better drive height.

I wouldn't ride in it if you pulled it off!

and it would probably be cheaper to sell the straight bottom boat at repo prices and pay retail for a boat that was built stepped.

You mean this one ;) I think Doug had more $$$$ in the bottom of that boat than the whole boat and power combined. I think Dave Goodman at Tiger Fiberglass and Marine in Marysville, MI did the bottom. I believe that this boat has the most checkered flags in Offshore racing 50+? It is also the Yardarm boat.
