steering wheel out of center

steering wheel was centered when I got the boat but now it isn't... about 1/4 turn to starboard...oil reservoir is 3/4 full like its suppose to be. How did it get out of center???? Air in he system???

Steering wheels never stay centered with hydraulic steering. Just the way it is. That's why it's best to have a symmetrical steering wheel.

I've noticed that with mine to. Why is that?

I tried to center it thinking I must have berried it and somehow caused the steering wheel to go past center but it wont return to center by berrying it the opposite way. My bay boat outboard hydraulic steering has never been off center.

It's a fact of life with hyd steering. There have been a lot of posts on it in the past. Think it has something to do with the check valves....

I did a quick search, didn't find antying and held off asking cause it just didn't make sence that it would be anything major to me but I needed to know. I can unbolt the steering wheel and center it back up though:drink:

Mine has always done the same thing ever since installing hydraulic steering. No idea why it does it, but that is the way it is.

Do you have Full Hyd steering, Add on steering or cable hydraulic steering? If you have a cable involved it could have stayed centered. If you have full hydraulic then it will center every once in a while.

full hydraulic... the hydraulic on my bay boat has never gone out of center but the bass boat I had did. I also noticed the port drive looks like it may be just a tick out of center (prop more to port side) when the starboard drive is centered. the lock nut on the tie bar was loose it may have come out of line with that nut loose. fixing to change engine and drive fluids so I'll check that then.
