white sludge / film underside valve covers
We run on smaller lakes and it is hard to build and maintain good oil temps above 180 to 200 consistantly. With that being said the oil in my pan always looks good after running but ther is always this white film under the valve covers. People have told me its just codensation but its driving me nuts
Had the motor gone thru this winter , same thing? I have a crossover and no oil cooler, water temps up here range from 50 to 65 degrees any thoughts? |
The motor is just not getting hot enough. Do you have a T-stat?? If not try one or maybe a restrictor in place of the T-stat.
You also might check to make sure you have at least one pcv valve or fitting that is under a vacuum load while the engine is running. It will help pull the moisture out of the block. Regular breathers just relieve pressure. Smitty |

Smitty no thermostat just breather lines from valve covers to a breather tank, so you have seen this before?

I dont see what an oil cooler even with a thermostat would do since I have a hard time building even 200 degrees?

I had the same problem in my Cigarette. The oil thermostat cured it. The thermostat by-passes the oil cooler until oil temps reach 215 degrees.
We used the Keith Eickert unit from Hardin Marine. Kurt |
