OT: Scratched Emron repair
Someone keyed one of our cars a few weeks ago. Actually, I think they used a rock from the gravel parking lot where it was parked.
I'm over being angry (yeah, right) and now just want to fix it without filing an insurance claim if possible. They got both doors on the passanger side, but did not get through the primer/galv. coating. When the scratch is wet, it is almost invisible. The paint is deep brown with a slight metalic flake. Can anything be done to hide the scratch other than repainting? Thanks. |
If the scratches are not to deep, you may be able to have them buffed out. Some jacka** just scratched my car bumper in a parking lot also. I was able to buff it and get most of it out. It's not perfect but it beats repainting.

Chart try to clean the scratch out to see if the paint is still there. First of all i guess we are talking about base coat clear coat and if so is the clear is damaged down to the color? If the clear is broke you canot buff. If the clear is broke and not the color you can clear the door. If both are damaged you will need to blend the color and clear the whole door. sorry about the bad news i know how it feels and it is not good. make sure you find a guy that can blend paint it is a art. It makes all the diff in the world. There are some good paint stores that can scan your color to get a better match. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm not knowledgable of paints and processes, but I think it is a base and a clear. The car is a mid eighties MBz, and I understand the factory used Emron paint on it. Is Emron a base and clear type paint?
I'm in one state, and the car is in another. So it will be a few days before closely inspecting the scratches. In the dry daylight they look white. If that means anything to you. |
Emron and base coat/clear coat are two distinctly different things. Base/clear you can touch-up and buff out. Not so with emron. First, find out for sure what's on there then go to a friendly, knowlegable painter and let him advise you based on what you have. Luck. --- Jer
