Outboard stalls after hot restart

We've got a '90 Evinrude 90hp VRO. Starts well cold, runs great it will run for hours without a problem - as long as you don't shut it down. Shut it off and stop for lunch, most of the time it starts up well, sometimes have to fast idle it. It will rev up in neutral fine, it will idle in gear fine. Give it the least bit of throttle in gear and she bogs and stalls. I can't tell if choking or squeezing the primer bulb really has any affect or not as it will clear up on it's own also after several minutes of running usually. I've also removed the gas cap during this time with no affect. It stalled on Beth yesterday and wouldn't restart. Bypassed the water separating fuel filter and got it running. went for a ride, ran well. Stopped to visit with friends and it wouldn't hardly run after a restart. Straightened out after a few moments and was fine until shut off again.

:confused::confused::confused:

This is our third summer with it and it has always done this. Seems to be getting worse this year. We did replace the oil/fuel pump last summer for a no run/no fuel at all issue - no change in the hot restart issue.

I had a problem with a customers boat today. 90hp Johnson. Same type of issue. Check your fuel line. I was able to squeeze the primer bulb and got it going. Changed the line and it started right up. Drove around the lake, parked it for 15 mins and started up again without issue. I will keep you posted if the problem persists.

I am thinking fuel line also. Probably still original from the tank to the transom fitting (has in hull tank). I think I'll look into changing the lines on the engine (under the cowl) too.

Mine was a merc, it would do the same thing, it was running out of fuel, i would have to squeeze the primer bulb before resarting after hot shutdown, it was a bad primer bulb, pin hole near the clamp. It would suck air into line.

I had the same exact problem on a 2007 Suzuki 225 and if I pumped the bubble it started running fine the dealership told me it was vapor lock.

Found a hole in the bulb, changed the bulb - still the same.

I was thinking vapor lock also, so I opened the fill cap during the problem - still the same. Would that alleviate the vapor lock if that's the problem?

I think squeezing the bulb helps, but I'm not sure as it clears up on it's own after a few moments without my intervention too.
