Help. . . .496Ho Alarm! What is it?
 

A friend has a new (25 hours) 496HO that is getting a warning alarm on one of his motors.

2 beeps every 30 to 40 seconds.

All guages read normal, all fluids are good. The beeps sound after some running on plane.
Also, the motor can be off, but turn on the ignition, the beeps still sound.

Any thoughts???

The boat is "scheduled" to go into service. . . . . but you know how long that takes.

Check the drive oil resiviour (sp) that is mounted on that motor. There is a float on the bottom of it, and if the level is on the border-line it will cause interrupted alarms.......It will fool you every time. ;)

That is not it. Tried that too. Even disconnected the sensor in the drive oil bottle.

Bill, does the manual indicate what all the alarms are for?

I had once were my motor "alarmed" and same thing everything checked out OK. I went into the manual and it stated what items create an "alarm". I went back to the motor and found one of the sensor wires came loose and the alarm went into the "fail safe" mode. Once I connected the wire, everything was fine.

What doesn't make sense in your case is that the alarm is sounding after you are on plane. Could just be a bad sensor eventhough the fluids are OK.

Manual says nothing!!!

You would think it would. It tells you there are 4 items for an alarm, but not one for 2 beeps every 30 -40 seconds.

All 4 items have been checked and re-checked.

Actually, it is true that the book lists four causes for an alarm. The first three are the normal engine oil, engine temp, and drive oil. The fourth says something like..... check engine guardian system, and refers you to another reference which is not included in our paperwork. Wouldn't you know it. I am still waiting for the mechanic to put a diagnostic unit on it to see if it shows an error code.
