Any Landscapers around, got a trimmer related question?
In need of a new string trimmer(this is boating related since I need it to trim around the boat trailer:lolhit:). I have always had the cheapy's(weedeater brand), Just cant see spending over $200 for a trimmer to use on my mini south florida lot. I want to get a good one this time, and ran across a company called Tanaka?? I can get what I consider a huge upgrade from the cheapys for a lot less than a Stihl, or Echo($149 after rebate from Amazon). And supposedly these are commercial units(although the one I want is their bottom of the line TCG22EASSLP) with a 7 year consumer/2 year commercial/1 year rental warranty. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with them?

If you have problems with who locally can repair it. If you go with Stihl the FS55R will be more than enough and is $199. Many dealers for repair in your area. Just my .02.

I've had the bottom of the line Stihl for four years now and haven't even had to change a spark plug. Good problem free units. Only thing is make sure you get the strait shaft, your back will thanks you.

Straight shaft STIHL...period!!!! They cost more because they are WORTH IT.
Had mine 8 years and store it under the deck. (Tarp is suspended under the deck to keep the rain off). For 8 springs I have pulled that thing out for the first use of the year and pulled the cord 3 times and it fires!!! In the summer using it every couple weeks it takes 2 pulls and it starts right up. Get the cheapest commercial version Stihl and you'll not fight with a trimmer for many years to come. besides, they sponsor a race boat, we gotta support the guys that support us!!! |
I cant say for weedeaters, but, I have owned a few Stihl chainsaws and they worked awesome. I only found out recently that you can buy 4 stroke weedeaters, which are MUCH quieter and easier than the old noisy, smokey, 2 strokes.
If you dont want to pay the "full load" check out Kijiji or Craigslist, there are probably dozens sitting in peoples garages still in the box that where recieved as Fathers day presents or door prizes that they have no use for. I grabbed one awhile for about 30 cents on the dollar, brand new Michael |
Get a Stihl, or Echo. Look on Ebay and Craigslist. Redmax and Tanaka are the best.
You get what you pay for. Find one on Ebay or Craigslist and save money. The new Echo "U turn" head is great. |

Had a lawncare company for 10 years and you can't beat the stihl straight shaft trimmers. You will probably never have to replace the thing until the day you die and it's got enough hp to teat through anything especially with the titanium string. Great for edging also
