Adjusting Throttles ??

My throttles start raising rpm's at different positions.....where is the best place to adjust ? at the throttle or at the engine ?

Griff 07-12-2010 12:52 PM

Its easier to do at the engine a slong as there is enough room for adjustment on the cables there.

Need to do this as well. my starbord will jump to 1000rpms at the first click up, but the port does nothing, I have to click it 2 notches.

and when running on plan, the starbord is always behind the other to match

read some other thread on this as well. and the tachs may not be acurate enough but you can HEAR when you get the motors in sync. and when i have mine in sync they are not even at all.

i would make sure throttles are setup the same, quick visual. don't want to fight at carbs when adjustment at sticks are off.

Yes, double check the geometry at both ends, i.e. same holes so you have the same lever arms. Set the throttle cables so they tip into the secondaries at the same time. Let te idle be controlled by the screw stops at the carbs. Verify that both come to WOT together.

If all that works right, then start looking at the motors to see if you've got a bad plug, or other problems.

Pulled covers this weekend, and tried to adjust port cabel on the motor. there is barley any adjustment there (less than a centameter) and it was not enough. SO i put it back, and treid removing the shifter assembly. those cabels are tight on the bottom and i did not get it to pull out enough.

this normal? at this point i stopped as it was hot and i did not want to make am ess on boat while foating with freinds for to long.

If you had close to a cm of adjustment, I'd say that is about normal. If its not enough, then you could always cheat a little and adjust the starboard cable the opposite way so they even out.
