well bad news there is in fact a issue with exhaust and how fountain shortened it which in turn was the cause of the motor injesting water . SOL:eek:

your telling me. What confuses me is even if reggie shorten exhaust pipes what affect would that have on water in oil I dont get it. Unless there was a crack or head gasket failure .

It was most likely reversion it is when water from the exhaust is sucked back into the motor. Do a search on here there is alot of info about it especially on the 525 merc.:)

Likely has CMI headers? They suck! You can have them tested and welded if they are not too bad. I have them on my Donzi and have replaced 3 so far. Have a motor with only 160lbs comp. on the port bank due to that. Im going to rebuild that one in the winter. Good luck!

Put some rubber FLAPS on the end of the tail pipes. If you have a large wave hit the back of your boat and you don't have rubber flaps that will close on water impact, the water can travel up your pipes and into your cylinders. This can easily happen if your engines are turned off and the water is ruff. Once you have water in your cylinders and you try to start the motors, BOOOM!!:grinser010: I use the clamp ons. It's a cheap investment.
