shoot throught type depth finders.....the installation depends a great deal on what the hull is made of. And depending where in the hull it's mounted. On my cat that has great deal of kevlar and core (of some sort) I forget. Eliminator knows. I had to frill a 3/4 " deep hole before I could get a reading, then it works up to on plane...because then there is too much turbulance for it to read. After your on plane...doesn't matter much what the depth is....I guess. Cause you ain't stopping in time anyways. Mine is a Teleflex...

i need to re epoxy mine. it came loose a while ago. any suggestions for epoxy?

Cigarette should be able to tell you if your boat is cored. If you have the depth finder, and want to test it before doing anything permanent, it is not too difficult. You need to have the boat in the water - at least 6 - 8 feet deep as some depthfinders lock in at shallower depths. Put the transducer in a baggie full of water and put a twist tie at the top. Set the baggie in the bilge in a likely location with the transducer pointed down. Run temporary power to the depth finder and see if you get a reading. Try different locations to see if it works better or worse and to try to find one which both works and will be accessible to make a permanent mount. If you can not get a reading in this manner then you most likely do have a cored hull. Good luck.

I just did mine a couple of weeks ago. I used 2 part JB weld (any hardware store) Make sure to sand down the old epoxy and try not to have any bubbles in the new mix. I got my info from Fever Mike and it seems to be holding up pretty well so far.

I have a 85 38' Cig and it is not cored. Solid fiberglass about 3/4" thick. I don't think Cigarette cored until recently.
