500 efi intake porting

Has anyone done any porting on a 500 efi or Arizona Speed intake and plenim. What kind of results?

I just had the one off of my boat apart. There already port matched upper to lower, other than smoothing out the runners does not look like there's a whole lot that can be done to them. I would think that the focus would need to be on port matching to heads.

There is not enough material in the casting to port it enough to make any large difference in power. I have the Tyler Crockett throttle body kit on mine which mounts the throttle body on the top of the intake and acts like a tunnel ram . My engine dyno'd out at 693 HP with this kit and the 500 efi manifold. Email me and i will send you a pic. [email protected] Jeff Wurl

Did you dyno the engine before you put the Tyler Crocket kit on it?

No I did not dyno before the Tyler Crockett set-up. It is supposed to add 40hp. By the way, the engine is a 540 and not a stock 500 efi. Jeff Wurl

Mine is a 588 tall deck with Az Speed efi system Which is the same as the 500 efi. They said they had built a 750 hp motor with this same system. Mine dynoed at 645 which is disappointing because it was built to be 700 +

I have not ever heard anything good about Az speed

Before I built my motor, the highest hp motor with a 500/525 EFI injection unit that i ever saw was 640.hp. I have never seen one over 700hp. Jeff Wurl

The top ends on those plain suck for making any big power and there isnt much other than port matching that can be done.

Stroked port matched and added compression we have gotten near 700 without issues but beyond that is a stretch

CAB,

The basic port architecture is the roadblock to making power here. You can increase finite measurable gains downstream of the intake by optimizing exhaust, compression ratio, cam profile, etc; however, once you have exceeded the limitations of the intake manifold, this becomes the limiting factor in your specific output.
In OEM condition, with good heads and the correct camshaft ~ 585-600 HP is the end of the road. Runner length, CSA, and particularly the transition from plenum to runner will prohibit this manifold from reaching anywhere near 700 HP. To further complicate the scenario, as the manifold reaches its inherent design limitations the resulting decay in plenum pressure prohibits the use of conventional cam profiles.
Even with porting, the primary design consideration (manifold packaging) leaves little room for improvement.
