Oil Temp Sender Location

I'm considering adding an Oil temp gauge as I just went to a mechanical drive indicator and need to fill a hole on the dash. I'm thinking it could be installed at the oil filter relocation point (engine was a 2000 454 MAG MPI) at the front port side of the engine. Would the sender go into the supply or the return from the filter? Also, does anyone know where I might find an adapter to place at this point that will have a hole for the sender?

I Like to put my oil temp senders after the cooler so I know how hot the oil is going back into the motor. My last boat had one in the pan & one after the cooler so I could see how well it was cooling.

Also, you can take any aluminum oil filter bracket and drill & tap it for the sender.

That sounds like a good idea. I have 2 coolers on mine so after the second one would be the spot for that.

I'm using the factory filter mount so I'm assuming that is aluminum. I suppose I could drill and tap that as well. Although I'm not sure if it would still fit in the mounting bracket with the sender sticking out the side.
