Eliminator Daytona 24 handling

I sold my Baja yesterday, in the market for new ride and came across a 1991 Eliminator Daytona 24 with 502 Mercruiser.

My concern is I have never rode in or driven a cat and read in the past of porpouse issue. Is this a perticular concern with this model?

Also are there considerable differances in the handling that I will be adjusting to...pros and cons?

I had a 1990 24 with twin 2.5 300hp Merc OB's. Boat was very quick topped out at 115+. Boat was light with a lot of setup time.

Was a blast to drive. No bad habits or porpise issues. Took a set easy and ran hard. Was a great lake drag boat. The Merc 2.5's Ran great but were very short lived and wore me out.

The 2 24's IO boats I have rode in with Stock BB power ran around 75-80 on my E-Trex GPS. In my experience they are great lake boats but to me OB models were the bomb.

Go over the the Scream and Fly site and ask the same question. I did run into a post over there a couple of years ago showing a well setup 24 IO running big numbers. It looked very fast.

To me my boat was good up to about 2 footers. After that the boat took it, but you got beat up and you were airborne alot.

I put alot of time in my OB 24 Daytona. Had the boat complelety apart. The boat was built well. When I got it a redo was needed. Check the bottom of the center pod. They get weak and give way. Also, if the boat has foam under the floor like mine did, it might be wet making the boat heavy and rotting the floor. A good survey or moisture meter can determine that.

The boats were made in CA and WI. Mine was a WI boat and was alot of fun. It made a believer to many in OB power and sent alot of guys back to the trailer.

Hope this helps.

Scott
