BBC tall deck-"decked" too many times

I've got a 427 Tall deck Chevy stroked out to a 482. After having some issues, the block was sent out to be decked and honed. The block comes back and the engine builder notices that the pistons will hit the heads. After looking into it further, he realizes the engine has been decked several times and the current set up won't work. My questions are: Are there shorter rods I can use? Or pistons that are shorter? All of the combinations he came up with won't work-they are all too long. Any suggestions?? Do I make it into a "de-stroked" engine? What do I do? Buy a new block??
Thanks!

You can get custom pistons with a shorter deck height, or another block.

Thicker head gaskets are the easiest solution. How far out are the pistons?

I would just run thicker head gaskets as well

Cometic will make them up to about .080 thick. You will need about .040 between the head and the piston so that's good for a lot of decking.

if all else fails i have a block,,Virgin!!

I've seen em run sticking out of the block pretty far. It's not "optimal" but it works. Top edge of top ring ought to be at least .060 down from top of bore to keep from accelerated bellmouthing of the top of the cylinder.

Thanks for the responses! I'm still weighing my options, but leaning towards a special order low "deck piston".

Depending on the piston I've flycut the decks may have to flycut intake reliefs as well Are you using a 4 1/4 crank with 454 pistons?

Gary, this is Bob here from 606 Lock'd Up-I didn't know if you knew my OSO name. Your shop actually did the machine work on the crank and the block-sent to you by Kurts Marine. Excuse my ignorance but what is a "fly cut"?
The block is a 427 tall deck, stroked out with a 4.25 crank and 4.25 pistons.
Thanks for your help and suggestions!
Bob
