dry exhaust vs wet exhaust

any opinions on dry exhaust....better than wet or??? pros or cons? may look at getting a set but wanted some feedback, can silent choice be added thx

Philm 08-14-2010 05:39 AM

It is louder and can make more power, as well as allowing a more radical cam design without the fear of reversion.

It is a lot louder.

I dont know about silent choice, but it probably cannot be added as you will burn up the rubber hoses.

Do those in line mufflers designed for use with wet or dry exhaust actually do anything to suppress the sound? I haven't actually heard a muffled dry exhaust first hand but I just bought an un-muffled one so I am beginning to worry!

I have heard muffled dry exhaust that was as quiet as muffled wet exhaust. It takes a lot of $$$ to do it though. The system I heard actually had mufflers built into the tailpipes.
You cannot run silent choice with dry exhaust.

Hey all thanks for the replies, I will stick with the wet exhaust.....at least until I'm partially deaf...

sosatime 08-14-2010 02:34 PM

dry exhaust is good only if you're running a radical cam

I have been running full dry CMI's and GGB Extreme mufflers for years, with no issues at all to report The engine sounds great, not too loud at all.

Ghostrider 08-15-2010 01:20 AM

Thanks Vinny, that's what I was after as well. Are your GGBs the inline or clamp on the tailpipe style?

Vinny P 08-15-2010 06:06 AM

Clamp on. I have heard that GGB was going to reopen the business. Anyone know if this is true?
