Looking at a 1991 24' switzer
anything I should be looking at specifically on it. It has a fresh 515 BBC with a 177 blower on it, interior just redone. Boat has been sitting for over 5yrs. Rumor is it was the personal boat of the owner of Switzer.
Any info on these would be much appriciated Thanks Jay |
Thats a small blower for 500+ cubic inches. Dont know much about them boats, but on anything thats 20 years old, check for signs of rot!
|
They were pretty quick boats in the day. One guy even ran one (and won 1 race) in the old APBA "A" class here in the northeast. (I believe they were limited to 500 cubic inches back then.) They were a little light on deadrise so they were not a rough water boat by any means.
As for what to look for in a boat that age, the usual suspects: water intrusion, rot and stress cracks in the hull and the usual stuff with engine and drive. |
thanks for the info
anyone else have anything to add to this Jay |
my buddy had a 24 switzer with a 502 magnum
fantastic boat can handle big water for that size runs high at speed, which feels fantastic. his had no issues, other than wear and tear. check for stringers (soft or rot) my eliminator needed new stringers... |
Fixx
The last one i rode in rode like chit,it pounded the crap out of you....

Check the hull real close. Several of those that I have seen over the years had some wicked osomosis blistering issues.
They are a shallow ( 20*) I think V. Quick, light but not overly suited to rough water. |
Interesting difference in opinions on ride / ability to handle rough water. If you're running on a small body of water, they probably ride fine. Anything larger and you find out that 20 degrees of deadrise tends to ride like a floor jack.

I had an 89 it was a great boat for inland lakes. It was horrible for big water. It pounded the hell out of you.
