Salt A Away
i had a salt restiction at the transom assembly on one engine,,,right at the rubber hose( insert) from the outdrive to the transom assembly,,,engine was removed and insert was cleared,,my question is about the other side,,,iam thinking it will need to be cleaned out also,,even though is is not running hot,,,can i fill the hose that runs from the sea strainer back to the transom assembly with salt-a-way , full strength,,,and leave it over night to disolve the salt will somthing like that work.is there a better way ,,,open for suggestions

Maybe hot water would make the salt more soluble. Or mechanically remove it.

First of all, the engine doesn't need to be removded to fix it. ;)
You can take the water hose neck off the transom assembly, there are two small bolts holding it on and then use a screw driver or something to clear the hole. Most of the time salt gets behind the plastic insert and makes the hose collapse.. the other thing you can do is pry the insert out, pull the hose thru the transom assembly or push it out, clean it the best you can and put in a new plastic insert. Spray some spray-nine or windex on the insert and hose to make putting the insert in much easier. Once it's in place the spray-nine dries and you're good to go. You'll need the special tool to insert the new insert. Happy boatin! :) |
