Braided SS Fuel line

looking for some input on braided fuel line.
I have set up my fuel line from regulator to carb with EARL'S auto flex hose and from the filter to the regulator using Russell's pro-flex hose. I seem to have a smell of fuel coming thru the Russell's hose. It is not leaking, it is a smell of fuel & it is definatly coming from the hose!!
What is everyone else using for hose??
I prefer working with the Russell's hose fittings.

Tom,

I prefer AeroQuip hose and fittings to Russell or Earl's. AQ is much better quality. The fit between the hose and the fittings is much tighter and the finish lasts longer. I use the braided SS stuff for my oil and fuel. -8 from the tank to the carb. And -10 on the oil system.

Are the ss braided lines ok with the coast guard for fuel?

The Coast Guard in my boating area (Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay of Virginia) towed in a Baja Outlaw 29 and a Formula 272 last year because of what they did not consider approved fuel line. They were running S.S. braided hose. I had thought about using braided hose when I installed my ProCharger but could not find any info stating that it was approved. Contacted Russell and they said theirs was not even though they consider it better. Might be different where you boat but that's what happened here.

What I was told Coast Guard requires solid line everywhere after the fuel pump.

I think by the letter of the law, the fuel hose has to meet a certain spec and be marked as such something like every 12 inches. The braided stuff can't be visibly inspected for dry rot.

I think that we are all in trouble if braided hose is illegal. I had a saftey inspection done (CG AUX.) and they did not say anything about it. I used Earl's hose with swivel seal ends - no leaks or smell.

I am going to switch the section of Russells hose to Earls hose.
I don't have a leak, but I am definatly getting a smell thru the hose!
I don't have this at all with the Earl's hose.
