New crate engine with less than 20hrs looses oil pressure after engine warms up. Sounds like main bearing to me.. What do you guys think??

Throttle Fever 09-05-2010 09:19 PM

What pressure are you running cold? Has it been that way from the get go? Or is it been gradually been getting worse. Just a thought is your remote oil filter plumb correctly? Had a buddy with the same issue, he had the remote filter plumb wrong. It ran fine until it crushed the paper pleats in the filter and he then started to loose oil pressure. His was at the 23 hr mark. Just a thought. Pete

How much does it lose. Mine drops about 20 after warms up from 70 to 50

Brushwolf243 09-05-2010 09:26 PM

cold engine 40lbs from the very first time the engine was fired.. drops down to almost nothing now when warmed up

Check the routing on the remote fiter. Sounds like they are backwards.. Should be running more pressure than that. Out on the engine (outter fitting on engine adaptor) to in on the filter base. Out of the filter base to the cooler than to the engine in (center fitting on engine adaptor),

firehawkcat 09-05-2010 09:34 PM

Make sure it is just not a lose ground on guage but sounds bad when was last time oil was changed

RHM253 09-05-2010 09:36 PM

Check it with a mechanical guage to make sure it's not just a sending unit problem.

which crate engine ? these new gen VI engines don't carry much OP have 3 only about 50-60 cold down to 25-30 after running at idle, like others said ck those filter lines, also what filter set up are you running ? what line adapter ? correct restricters in block under filter mount ? try a good filter and 20w50 oil...

Winner on the first guess.. I have been fighting the same issue for 3 years, :angry-smiley-038:I spun mains and it is the same senario, finnally scrapped the block, started freah, dropped it in this weekend, all is good !:drink:

If these are new Marine crate engines and Gen 6, you have to remove the center pressure relief valve and change the other one to a 30 LBS. Do a search, there has been endless post's on it.
I installed two this spring, and they sing long a song:drink:

Good one Jim. Forgot to mention that. I am sure you nailed it. I like many others pull them both and plug the outer.

Brushwolf243 09-06-2010 08:18 PM

Yes Gen VI
I hope it didn't due any damage.. Engine is 2 weeks out of warrenty

Brushwolf243 09-10-2010 09:53 PM

I think Im very lucky----mechanical gauge reads 60 and held for 10 min while on the muffs, going to put back on the water this weekend.. what color is the wire and location of gauge sending unit // what is the wire and location of low oil warning....
