loosing drive fluid in bilge ??
I replaced my bottle because the bottom was covered with gear lube and it was empty(thought it was cracked), I fill it up and after an hour it was empty again and i noticed the bilge had gear lube in it, any ideas how the lube can get from the drive to the bilge ? this happened several times today

alot of times that line is spliced by the transom housing see if its leaking there or rubbed through

Sounds like a bad seal in the drive pushing pressure out to the bottle and into the bilge. Prob a yoke seal.

What drive?

Assuming its a bravo drive it sounds like the input shaft seal of the drive is leaking into the bellows, then overflowing through the transom assembly into the bilge. If so be ready when you pull the drive, it's going to pour drive fluid all over the place!!!!

I will go with the plastic bulkhead fitting going from the drive bottle to the fitting in the outdrive.

thanks guys, it is a bravo drive

The cap on the bottle had a bad seal on mine
and would leak out when running in gear, theres 7 to 9 pounds of pressure when you run it in gear. Try new cap and seal. |
