roller rockers on vortec heads
 

i got a set of prw ss 1.5 self aligning full roller rockers for my 350 vortec ho motor its about 400hp at 5300 to 5500rpms is installing these rockers worth it will they help at all etc.

I modified a 260HP non Vortec with Vortec heads, camshaft, valve springs, intake manifold, exhaust tube and the self aligning roller rockers. I did everything at once and did not put it on a dyno (estimate about 330HP). All the dyno work I have seen with similar Vortec headed engines shows the 1.5 roller rockers to be worth about 15 - 17 HP at around 5000 rpm so you should gain perhaps 1-2 mph.

I purchased new GM Vortec heads from Summit racing and also purchased the 1.5 self aligning roller rockers from Summit and I beleive they said that Trick Flow makes them. I used the stock stamped Mercruiser valve covers that the 260 came with. My 260 already had Mercruiser center bolt valve covers. I don't remember if I had to remove a baffle or not but I don't think I did. If your roller rockers are wider than mine it is possible you might have to just grind a bit of the back corner of the outermost roller rockers if they hit the valve cover.

When I upgraded to vortec heads on my old SBC the machinist told me & had to drill out the pushrod holes to run Rollers?

Please explain that one??

You drill them out only if you machine the heads for screw in studs and guide plates.

You need to watch your clearance, to make sure that the push rods don't rub the head. You shouldn't have to worry about it with the 1.5 rockers that is what is factory for these heads. You mainly have to open the holes up when going to 1.6 rockers. It is a good Idea to check it any ways. :drink:

Don't run guide plates with self aligning rockers bad deal.
