Top Mount Stater Guys

Any one on here have a top mount starter. Mine are kind of loud to me. Has anyone had to shim them just looking for some feedback.

Check the mating service service where starter meets bellhousing :drink:

I've had that prob before. There are a couple different types of starter gears (or drives). I can't give you details cause I don't remember which is which. The same old story in this country, Not much is made here with pride anymore.

I have a spare starter in my boat if you want to try it. I just had it rebuilt for $45. There is a guy over on Alpine across from the old lear plant that rebuilds them inexpensively. He does all my starters and alternators. He is in front of the Butch's Total Car Care building.

If you have offshore motor mounts between the block and bellhousing you should use a "cut" bellhousing for the starter to match up to ring gear. Maybe that is an issue?

That was my thought too. Or as said earlier, if something is prohibiting the starter from completely seating in its bore squarely.
