Mbam

These 383s that are 350 hp and 400 they are reconditioned were do the block and heads come from. Are they automotive or previous marine applications.Reason I am asking is would something that was a 7 year old or more salt water engine be rebuilt.
Thanks

Sorry I haven't chimed in... been busy but I like all the info so far...

What are the work arounds for the shift interrupt? Any one know if this hard to work around?

If BAM wants to chime in and dispute this would love to hear. But I was told by a marina these remanufactured engines reuse many parts.Like the wiring harness water pump, injectors,ECM etc.
Would love to know what is replaced or does it depend on condition.

If you go for it , I may take the old engine off your hands. As I read on merc remanufacturing motors , and heard from a few techs , they are mistake blocks. My merc remans had new heads on them ! as well as circ pump. That setup would be nice w 400 hp

The Alpha pump is adequate while on plane or at startup. It is not enough volume when you come off plane.

Wow been awhile since I started this thread, bringing it back with a question... Anyone know what cam they ran in these motors? I figured since they ran stock merc exhaust manifolds it might be worth looking into as an option to build a 383. I picked up a 1981 24 Pantera that is powered by a Mercruiser 260 hp V8 / alpha setup. Needs more ooomph...
