Switching to Dry Exhaust.
 

G'day All,

I've bought a set of jacketed headers (finally), similar to the ones in the picture, except with turned down ends for a BBC / B1 application with full length tailpipes to match.
I want to run them dry to the transom but I'm not sure what I need, parts wise, to run the tailpipes actually through the transom. What sealing or flange kit do people use?

I fear it might be WAY too loud as well, what kind of a muffler system do people run in a dry exhaust, other than silent choice or the Captains call below water switchable system?

Any recommended flange / seals or muffler types would be greatly appreciated!

It will be MUCH louuder than a wet exhaust system. You can't run Silent Choice with dry exhaust. The tailpipes are one piece and go all the way through the transom.

Do how do you limit the amount of noise? Would dumping the water outlet just inside the transom quieten it down any? Or is there a slip in muffler I can put in the ends at the tips that might work?

I checked the CP sight. Those transom seals have a silicone ring to stop the water? No risk of burning the ring out with a dry exhaust is there? I'm assuming it's that high temp silicone.

those are cmi split tubes,,the tail pipe is a double wall tube to where as water runs through them so you wont burn the rubber on the transom rings..if you look in the ends of the tail pipes you will see a few holes to where as the water dumps out..yes the water blend at the end of the tail pipe will quiet it down a little bit..

Where does the water from the tail pipes dump??? Is there a tube inside the end of the tails???

Dry exhaust is not any hotter than wet exhaust except for maybe at the last inch or two of the tails. They are both fully water jacketed.

I have dry exhaust, and everyone always asks if it gets hot. It gets hotter sitting in th sun then when running, but it is load as hell. there are mufflers that work with dry exhaust, most of them are pretty pricey.

I have been running full dry CMis for years with a set of GGB extreme mufflers, with no issues at all. Its still somewhat louder than standard style wet exhaust, but in my case, the positives outweigh the extra noise. No chance of any reversion!! BTW, I have shot the headers with a temp gun , the only run about 95*

A guy at one of the local poker runs does this - boat sounds great in my opinion. Not too loud but a little louder than a wet exhaust. I love it.

This is on a CIG so there isn't any bussle/swim platform to muffle it....

I have dry exhaust all the way through the transom. Then the water dumps right at the end. I have Gaffrig switchable mufflers. With the mufflers closed, it sounds like a normal unmuffled wet system. With them open, it is a LOT louder.
