TRS Lower Gear's Material?

Does anyone know what material TRS lower Gear are made from?
My guess is 8620 but that is just a guess.

Thanks

If Some is good then more has to be better!!

I was told by what I considered to be a reputable sorce that all TRS gears, upper & lower, were cast and machined. No HD forged sets available when I lunched mine. So, I buoght the only set I could get and had all the gears and other important parts cryo treated. --- Jer

Was considering PVD coating a set TIN perhaps ,I could have a chemistry done to determine the material. If it is a case hardened steel such as 8620, coating could cause problems even the"cold" process involves temperatures up to the 800's. When I used to drag race snowmobiles ,I used a lot of molybdenum disulfide based coating on friction wear surfaces (piston, rotary valve gears,Secondary helix). I was wondering if anyone has experimented with coating on outdrive applications?

Thanks

Rob, I had a metalurgist do a report for me a while back. I will see if I can find it. Cost a bundle.

For what it's worth I've had to make new output shafts for a project here at work for the 4l60e trans This is the shaft that the drive yoke ataches to. The way we did it was to use aise 1050 bar stock turned diameters oversized flame hardend shaft. Ground diameters to finsh then to cut splines had them EDM burned. EDM will not effect heat treat. For production they use cast 1050 then broach splines then induction hardend to a 2.5 mm depth @ HRC 50 - 56.
