The XR's that my friends and I have been using on our high hp single engine cats (in my case a 26' with a blown 510) have worked great. Before the XR everybody was running upgraded Bravo's from IMCO, Teague ect... and they were breaking. So far the XR has been very reliable, although you will lose some speed over the standard Bravo.
I just bought a Top Gun with HP 500's and XR'S with 1.50's. I will see how they work on a larger boat. I think, like mentioned above, if they are used on in the correct application they are a big improvment over the standard and upgraded Bravo's. There is always the # 6 drive if you need ultimate reliability.Just my .02
