What is normal life expectancy for headers in terms of years vs hours; salt vs fresh???

How about the 600 SCi's or 700 Sci's. There headers look the same-are they?

Good question I have never heard of it happing to those engines so maybe they are different

I believe someone was looking for a single header for a 600 or 700 a couple months back because of a crack issue. I talked to jerry at stainless marine last weak and he says they have had only one failure in 20 + years, an external water leak, he says if the manifold leaks it is designed to leak externally .

So in review 496s spit the pistons out,and 525s due to poor quality headers dump water into the cylinders.

The big big problem with the 496ho is the pushrods and valvetrain.

This unfortunately has been becoming a common problem that's why we offer both Hardin Marine Typhoon and CMI Gen X 525 replacement header systems..

Hardin Marine

CMI

Your CMI link leads me to believe that the headers are also the same for the 600 and 700 SCi's. Is this the case?

Looking here http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selec...asp?type_id=8H it seems the part number is the same for the exhaust headers for the 525EFI, 600 and 700 SCis.
