New carb

In the market for a new custom carb, which would be the best choice, AED or Nickerson?

carb

nickerson has been great with my carbs on my hp500s. i even had issues with rubber from my fuel pumps months after he freshened them up and he went through both of them for free. the issues that i was having was caused by my fuel pumps, not his awesome carb work.dean is a pleasure to work with, and his carbs are flawless!!!!!!!!! i am in the process of building a pair of 548/650s and he will be the guy doing the carb work. he has also done a speced out 950 for my prostreet camaro that performs excellent!!!

Prosystems!

If you are looking at the Dominator style, I would recommend you get a 2-stage carb or you will run rich in the mid-range. For the $, the new Holley Marine Dominator 2-stage carb will be a good value.

ezstriper 11-16-2010 08:10 AM

For what holley charges for their carbs you can have one custom built and tuning right out of the box for about the same cost from prosystems..did it both ways...cheaper less time consuming getting one from patrick

yp make things more confuseing....C&S Specialties....look at their aerosol version,,efi throttle response..

BenPerfected 11-18-2010 04:18 PM

Ask Pro Systems if they do 2-circuit. I sold the two Pro-Systems they did for me. Bob Teague also recommends 2-circuit only. The new Holley marine Dominator is also USCG approved.

jmrapp 11-18-2010 09:21 PM

I use TRC located here in PA. They can custom build anything you can need.

2 circuit Dominator

I agree with using 2 circuit Dominator. I sent Pro-systems a 3 circuit (8896) that was running decent just a little rich at 1/3 throttle. After getting it back it was so rich off idle and through the middle it would barely run. I ended up blocking the intermediate circuit completely now the engine runs better than ever. 496 bbc running just over 85mph in 24 ft V.

I will say Patrick gave good support but it is hard to tune over the phone especially when it is so far off to start with.
