540 Bbc
I thinking about switching my 509's to 540's
So far I have dart dominator intakes that are converted to injection with 2000cfm throttle bodies. I need to buy heads, looking for 9.5 comp with 89 octane. I need to make close to 700hp and torque with a hyd roller. Do you think it is possible?? |
I'm no builder but comparing what mine were turned into several years ago.....700 out of a 540 running 89 will be tough. Spinning it up approaching 6,000 is probably the only way.

Hello Mike
Do you care to share with us? |

Baja,
You can get there with a set of dart pro 1's 355 CNC's and a good single plane intake both with a good port job, even in addition to the cnc work there's an additional 5% air flow to be gained tickling them some more by hand. 1050 dominator and good exhaust (tube headers) nothing less or all you big stuff up top is going to run out when your exhaust chokes up. Cam is a proprietary grind. |
Mike 11 wouldn't 355 by way to big, I was thinking about 325, 310
thanks |

thanks You are correct on both. Bob |
355 is definitely too big for a 540. I have a 598 and I am only running a 345cc, with some port work done to it.
I think you can get close to 700hp, but probably not over 700, especially not on 89 octane. |

[QUOTE=articfriends;3261288! Bob, maybe you could make a cam install video for the builders that get confused on which way to install roller lifters, Smitty :evilb:[/QUOTE]
Round end facing UP right ? :) |
A few years ago a guy surfaced on here claiming to make ridiculous hp from common combinations that used the same old garden variety parts. This self proclaimed engine builder created a fancy website and became a advertiser on here, he then posted dyno sheets with inflated numbers (correction factors over 20% in mid 60 degree weather). He then proceeded to defraud several members of OSO by building them engines that had MAJOR flaws and upon inspection in one instance the pair of motors he built were 10 mph SLOWER then before, failed at 10 or so hours, had several lifter sets in backwards to where the tie bars were bound up and the wheels were eating into the cam on a angle, the pistons that were SUPPOSED to be new were the original ones, the deception goes on and on. It got to the point of involvement of law enforcement and this self proclaimed engine builder relented and refunded some of the money but even then nowhere close to the actual defrauded amount or lost boating, destroyed parts, etc, etc, Smitty
