I watched a 496 11 to 1 Brodix BB-2 PLUS custom hyd roller cam Brodix Intake and a 950cfm carb on Sat. and the best pull was 611hp@ 5600 614tq @4200 on 93 pump gas. This was going in a street truck.

I built my (High Strung) 600HP 468's knowing that I would have less torque, and I would have to spin my engines to 6000RPM to reach my max HP. My reasoning was that it would be a little easier on the drives. Granted I have a considerably lighter boat than you. I know you want torque in a boat, but I do not need as much as you. I think you can build a pair of great 496's for your application.

I also think you need to ditch the stock manifolds and let them babies breathe, BTW what are your performance goals.

I had a friend that use to have a HEAVY '86 Top Gun with 700+HP solid roller 540's and he was going through a TRS/month. He also drove it like he stole it. Money for drives were not an issue. Babying it was not an option.

Thanks guys Yea the TRS is a consideration 4 sure. Whats your thoughts on if I dont hole shot the hell out of it ? I already take my planeing off seriously 500hp and 600 trq still can be rough on TRS. This thing runs 63 64 gps now will another 200hp and 10 mph or so grenade the TRS if I ease into that speed. And yes the trq of the 496 is pretty gd already sometimes I think I have more than I need down low and need to spread it around so to speek. Maybe the cam needs to be advanced? I dont need hole shots on a big ol heavy I need top speed
