Holley TBI kit, vers pro charger?
Looking for advise about best upgrade. I have a carbed 454,
.060 over, domed pistons, flat tappett cam, new world heads, dart single plane intake, MSD ign. Keith Eckert headers. Would like to know which would be the most bang for my buck? Would I be better off switching to the Holley TBI kit or going with a Pro Charger? |
I would guess it depends on what you want to accomplish with the upgrade and how much money you want to spend. Give us some more detail in what you want to do. TBI won't give much more HP, but the procharger will, but it will cost more money.
|
Cost isn't the issue, looking for more HP is everybodys wish! I had trouble with tuning, intake, carb, jetting, power valves. I am happy where I'm at now, but not happy with top end performance?

Compression ratio may be to high for the Procharger, the Holley TBI isn't going to add any HP.
|
Good catch GPM, I just noticed the domed piston in the description.
rek511, do you have any idea what the compression ratio is? I understand your reason for wanting to add TBI, but i'm not sure it will give you much more (if any) on the top end either. If your compression will allow the supercharger will give you the kick in the pants feeling you don't have now. |
Rek,
Look at the 250 Blower Shop set up int the swap shop. If the C.R. is suitable that would be a great value for you. They don't really add a great deal of height to the engine and will fit under the hatch of most boats. I would recommend consulting a reputable marine builder to ensure your components will work well together. If you want the Holley Efi call Eddie Young, he will give you a good deal on it and get you the right set up. Have fun. |
Best bang for the buck would be a custom roller cam and matching components from RMbuilder. I have the Holley MPI kit, runs and idles better than a carb but added very little on the top end.

MPI is different than TBI.

Thanks for all the input, I'm going to look at the 250 blower kit.
