Engine alarm wiring, and rewiring. Help.

My 272 baja, the previous owner really didnt take care of anything... needless to say, I open the VHF compartment under the helm which is where the Engine alarm is, and its just dangling, both wires going to nothing.

Anyways, I am rewiring most of the boat, I bought a new alarm, and want to know the proper way to wire it. I assume the purple wire ties into the merc harness which contains the sensor signals? And what about the yellow wire?

1999 HP 500 Engine.

Any help is greatly appreciative.

Those whose answer is "Thats what you get for buying a Baja" can leave them to yourself.

Thanks in advance!

The purple wire is hooked to the igniton switch and has power with the switch "On". The other wire should be tan and is hooked to the senders. The horn is ground seeking. With the engine off you should get ground thru the oil pressure switch. Check for ground on the tan wire and lift the wire off the switch if you loose ground your on the right path. Yellow wires in the engine harness are usually starting related. Hope this helps

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^What he said.

Purple should be wired into the switched 'on' side, but the ground should be tan with a blue tracer, at least that is what it usually is.

Stock the tan/blue goes to the oil pressure switch on the block, and the water temp switch. If you have a drive lube bottle, it should piggyback to the low fluid switch on that as well.

what do you want for the old stuff,is it all there? give me a call 419 473 2628 john .....there should be three wires purple is power to key on,black is ground and yellow or yellow with strip goes to senders in series ,one to the water over heat sender and one to the oil low sender.

Ok, do all the signal wires come in on one wire in the engine harness? Or do you have to splice into each sensor signal wire separately?

And HP500 also uses alarm on Low Drive Lube correct? Or no?

All the warning senders: low lube (yes you should have that), over temp, and low oil press will all be connect to the one wire (blue/tan) going to dash alarm. Anywhere along that wire that sees a ground will sound the alarm.

the res sender for your drive oil will have two wires one goes to ground and one to the tan/blue with the rest of the senders
