A couple of the valves are bent, they need to be replaced. I would have them taken down and set up for your cam shaft that you are going to install and have a valve job done at that time, but the heads are in great condition.

Thanks, Jeff

Are they the big valves? I just pulled the cam and sent info to Bob M
Had around a 2.85 lift im thinking it is the stock generation 6 454 brovo cam but not 100% yet. What type of cam you usually throw in this application?

I'm curious as to why you would want peanut ports as well. Large ovals seem much better, even for a 330hp.

If you're staying fairly mild, you probably don't want larger valves. Air velocity over volume seems to work best for lower Hp 454's in a marine app, but if you're getting a Bob M cam, you're probably looking to build some power...

with all the money you are saving on the heads, you can afford to have bob make you a cam and have the set up for the cam.

I also remembered that I have a brand new set of Crane roller lifters for the Gen VI that I will sell for $300 extra.

Now you got tha makings of a strong engine.

Default Heads and cam ?

Some of you must of misunderstood me i was happy i had peanut heads bc i took the motor apart hoping to make more power by removing the peanut heads if i saw large ovals then i wouldnt have the upgrades to do.

I'm thinking if i find the 049 and 781's heads i need to have the bigger intake valve 2.19 and exhaust 1.88 in those heads correct?

I took out the cam i got 2 sets of #'s 24296 and a E1 23:32
The motor is a 454 bravo gen 6 built in 1996
i measured the lift its approx .285 but i havent found the specs from those #s above.. My main ? is that the stock cam from that motor or is it upgraded?

Those numbers don't seem to be correct as far as being part numbers. I can tell you the lobe lift of a stock 330 is
Intake .271
Exhaust .282

My quess would be the cams are stock and yes those would be the valve sizes you want.

Your measage box is full,
First you are on the right track if you have been in contact with Bob "RMbuilder" Marine Kinetics. "Merlin" is just a name brand they are still large ovals.
The lift on the lobe is multiplied by your rocker ratio 1.7 to get .485 at the valve. Bob will know exactally what it is. Sounds like it could be a cam from the 330HP engine. Send me your email address I have a article and some pictures I can send you that may help you.

Talked with Bob M he says with the 049 and 781 heads the stock valves should do the job. Ill get some upgraded springs go from there.
