454 heads
The day has arrived i broke down the 454. I was hoping to see peanut heads but pulled off the intake to see what i think are the large oval heads with a little port work and sad to say some low pressure testing on 2 cylinders one at 80 and one at 110 the rest in the 130-150 range. I shot some oil in the intake and they pressured up a little more, so were going to pull it completly out of boat for rings, or bore it out.
My ? is this i measured the intake side of the heads and i got these numbers side to side 41mm or 1.6 inches and up and down 37mm or 1.5 inches.. If any one knows if these are ported peanut heads or oval port heads please let me know. Im hoping to get some numbers off them tomarrow if i can find them under all the paint\ with the motor out of the boat. thanks |
I just looked at a untouched pair of peanut port heads I had sitting on the shelf for ever and the intake port measured 1.7" side to side and 1.6" up and down. I would say their peanuts. Peanuts are square looking with rounded corners and ovals are actually a large oval. Casting number on them is 346236. Number is inside between the springs. I looked them up and they were '75-'87 113cc open chambers.

You made my day brother!

Nice Talking to ya yesterday, sorry I couldnt help, but weekdays are tough to get down that way. Besides, I can turn a wrench, but really am not the expert when it comes to BB stuff. Sounds like ya got some issues with those 2 cylinders we talked about, get it straightened out, and you should be where ya wanna be(faster than me:evilb:). let me know if ya need a hand on the weekends, I have been doing a bunch of work at the house to get it all squared away before summer(so I can run the boat more often this year), but could use a day away from home repair:drink:

What do you guys think, rebuild the heads or go with something aftermarket I have a set with a fresh rebuild and mild port work done. I also have manley valves and a couple sets of springs. Send me a PM if interested. |
Out of curiousity why would you rather have peanut ports over oval ports? IMO ovals are far superior to peanuts.

I have a good set of big ovals. 049 casting. Getting harder and harder to find them. I don't need them. These actually make better power than the after market oval Merlins.
They are in the swap shop, and need a valve job. All ready have like new springs set up for hyd roller. Also have a 454-0 edelbrock intake that matches the heads. Sell the whole kit for $900 shipped to a freght terminal close to you as long as you are in the cont US. PM me for paypal info. These are a great upgrade for 454. I am moving my shop, so I decided to let them go instead of storing them. Thanks,Jeff |
Here is the swap shop ad. whichever is cheaper? 600 plus the freight, or the 900 shipped? I will take either. It is a great deal for someone.
THanks,Jeff |
