Cutting your skegs off???? MPH gain vs handling loss????

You do not want to totally remove them. I know the first Sunsation F-4 had the XR Sportmaster skegs cut down and the leading edges sharpened.

Suicide - the skegs had been cut off my #3's when I first got my Cigarette. It would swap ends any time it felt like it. I'm only alive because it was not that fast back then.

Mine were cut down when I bought it. No adverse handling. I doubt it was done for speed on my boat. I'm guessing one got clipped and the other was shaved to match. I had a buddy on a Baja 240 that lost his on a rock and he said he didn't notice any difference.

I talked to a tech @ IMCO about trimming the skeg. He said they have picked up maybe a MPH by shortening & reshaping the skeg. He wouldn't give any details on how much or where to trim though.

I'm certain the stability would be affected by steps/no steps and twins or singles not to mention x dim. On my twin engine, no step -2 prop depth scarab I lost one skeg. Ran the rest of the year without it and noticed no change. The other skeg was fully in tact though. I have been kicking around eliminating the other one to match, but can't get past the potential danger as Marc (mbam) indicated. I am running low ninties so an end swap would be rude.

My Formula 242 has had the skeg shortened by maybe 2". It was like that when I got it so I can't say anything about before and after but I will say the boat handles fine in any weather.
