puke tank.

Can some of you post some pics of your puke tanks and the plumbing? My wife complained about the smell in the boat so I need to look at doing something other than throwing her overboard!

You can send me pics.

Puke tank has a breather just like your valve covers do. Puke tank just catchs oil that might blow out your breathers during a hard run. How are the breathers set up on it now?

toolsinbox 02-06-2011 02:57 PM

They each have a 3 inch tall vent near the back of the v cover.

I thought a puke tank would help with the smell?

Might try setting it up with hoses running from the valve covers to the flame arrester so it sucks the fumes back into the carb and burns them off. You would have to mount a pair of these on your flame arrester.

I just remembered we went through this back in August.

yes we did . I was confused with the puke tank with the flame arrester draw. Ok I have got it now. Are there any drawbacks to venting into the carb?

RunninHotRacing163.1 02-06-2011 04:03 PM

Do a compression test on the motor ,may need some rings buddy

toolsinbox 02-06-2011 04:07 PM

ok I re read the August post. Man my memory is getting bad. grrrrrr. I think I would like to go right into the intake. i have a brock performer intake with a few holes plugged. What do I need to make this happen. Please give me a parts list and which hole is best to use?

Currently all I have going through the intake is the distributer, carb, and the thermostat housing.

I have a brand new 454

picklenjim 02-06-2011 05:41 PM

I'm not so sure you can do that. It may make the engine not idle or run right. You would be putting air in to the intake after the carb so it would be like a big vacumm leak. Also would alter the air/fuel ratio your carb is making. That's why they let the vacumm draw it in to the flame arrester before the carb. Notice the pic Griff posted in your August thread.

toolsinbox 02-06-2011 05:56 PM

Ya I was thinking of that. It did occure to me that it would read like a vac leak. Ok in the flame arrester it goes then. I think I need a flame arrester that is set up already as mine is old and crappy. I will post in the swap shop.

Thanks for all your help pickle and others.

By the way; do I need to use fuel grade hoses for this venting? What do i use?

picklenjim 02-06-2011 09:05 PM

I wouldn't think it would have to be fuel grade but something that is not going to collapse or kink. So I guess your new engine will have different valve covers. If your new valve covers have a 1" hole with a rubber gromet then these are quick ,easy and cheap.

Then get a set of these and all you need is some hose and your done.

Here's one if you haven't seen it yet.

thanks again pickle.
this would be a nice upgrade I can do with the kids and make the wife happy.

picklenjim 02-06-2011 11:17 PM

Actually if you have a brand new 454 now you may not have that problem anymore. You may have had a lot of blow by in the old motor going past the rings as RHR suggested testing for. That's what creates a lot of fumes to be pushed out the breathers.

Just run hoses to the flame arrestor and be done.

that I did
