degree your cam? Degree your balancer
We were doing the final assembly on a blower motor for a short block I did for a customer adding a 250 blower. Well, I sponsor 2 NHRA cars so the car builders came by to help with the set up and button this baby up. We used a tdc stop and this massive degree wheel and guess what, the GM harmonic balancer was off 4 degrees in the wrong direction. Now, if the motor grenaded because of too much advance , its my fault, right? Gotta love those tightwad drag racers. We clay checked the valve clearance, screened the lifter valleys, blah blah blah. One happy 650 hp 454.

Dan,
I even degreed my brand new aftermarket dampner with one of those giant wheels and it was slightly off...I think it was 1 degree or something like that.:) Whose Pro-stock cars ? I'm sure you've heard of CFE and Maskins. They are local here. |
Hey I crew a tid-wad drag racer!! :D :D Boats are not the only things that cost loys of money.

You might check TDC with the wheel not the stop, it may be a little different. My 2cents |
degree tolerance
I seem to remember reading that if all the tolerances were out in one direction, the mark could be 4.5 degres off. Tolerance in keyways and TDC mark relative to balancer keyway. This is on factory parts, and shows why you should verify those important items such as TDC and cam timing.

I guess I maybe the one grenading my motor....
New prochager, heads and top end... Still using the cast bottom of a 454 motor... Keep the knowledge flowing to keep me following the straight line... Thanks |
