29 outlaw props
I have a 99 29 outlaw with twin 7.4 mpi's not mags the boat came with 25 mirage+'s but will only turn 4150 rpm turning props out and 4300 turning props in, it is also very easy to blow the props out when getting on plane. I am thinking of trying a set of 23 mirage+'s ( the correct rpm range is 4300-4600 at wot). If anyone has had this problem let me know what you have found or anyone with advice .

99baja,
I agree that your RPM is to low. The 23 Mirage + should be just about right. Maybe a 22 - 24 Bravo 1. That will help the blow out comming on plane. I am presently using Mirage +'s and can fry them comming onto plane if not careful. You listed your RPM difference turning in VS turning out but did not list recorded speeds each way. I am interested in those numbers if you will provide them. Also what other performance / handeling differences did in VS out make. Thanks, Mark |
I have the exact same set-up as you. I had a set of 24 labbed mirage +'s and was only getting 4200 rpm. I now have a set of labbed 22's and run 4600 rpm and about 64 on GPS(SUCKS) I would say that a good labbed set of 23's would be perfect.

I blow out with 25 - 3 blades but have learned to handle it. Tried 27 - 3 blades, still blew out but less. Tried 26 - 4 blades, still blew out but very little. Only problem was they were slightly worse than even the 25's at top speed. Should be getting my labbed 27's back soon. I will deal with the blow out in exchange for top speed. I don't think the blow out is hard to deal with. I just run the throttles up to 3200rpm, sit back, and let it come up on plane.

I am running labbed 25 Mirage Plus in my 29 Outlaw with 454 Mags. I'm turning 5050-5100 rpm's all day long. I agree with 29 Outlaw, I would not run 4-blade Bravo's unless you don't care about top-end performance. This hull likes the 3-blades.

29 Outlaw,
When you were prop testing, what sort of rpm's and speeds were you spinning with the 25 - 3 blades versus the 26 - 4 blades? Thanks in advance for the information. |
Advantage - go over the the Baja forum and look back a couple of days for a thread called "new props". My saga is explained there.
|
29 Outlaw, I saw the thread and read the contents. It still did not say how many rpm's you were spinning with the 25 - 3 blades. Can you quickly give me the rpm and speeds for the 25 - 3 blades versus the labbed 26 - 4 blades? I'm doing some prop testing myself. Thanks again.

I don't have a breakdown of the 25's thru the entire range, but top end has always been 5200rpm @ 78mph speedo.
|
Thanks for the information. What were you running for rpm's and speed with the 4 - blade labbed Bravo's? Thanks.
|
The breakdown of the 26's thru the range is over on the other thread, but top end was 5200 @ 77-78mph speedo. BTW, late last year I had a chance to try stock 27's. They ran 4900 @79mph speedo. I have labbed 27's on the way. (gps has confirmed that my speedo is "off" by 2 mph at top speed).

Thanks for the data 29 Outlaw. You'll have to post your results with the 27's when you get them back. Good luck!

Gettin Bye, I did not have my speedo hooked up at the time I will be doing some testing this weekend and I have my speedo hooked up now. I picked up a set of 23+ and will be tring them both ways as well as my 25+ and I'm going to borrow a set of 24 bravo's to try so I will get back to you with all the imfo. Thanks for the help everyone.

Hey Advantage,
I had a chance to run the 25’s while documenting speed thru the range. I also entered the world of hi-tech and purchased a GPS to record speeds. They are below: GPS 2500rpm – 33.5mph 3000rpm – 41.5mph 3500rpm – 49.3mph 4000rpm – 58.5mph 5200rpm – 74.8mph Speedo 2500rpm – 33mph 3000rpm – 41mph 3500rpm – 50mph 4000rpm – 59mph 5200rpm – 77mph I could have worked the trim and gotten a little more speed but it wouldn’t have done any good since I was running at the limiters. If Hill is able to get me 300rpm out of those 27’s then my top speed would be 79.6mph @ 5100rpm. I’m not expecting that speed but you never know. I would be thrilled with 77mph with the labbed 27’s. Nonetheless, they got me exactly 300rpm by labbing those 26’s that I tried a while back. Went from 4900 to 5200. |
I got back my Bronson Hill 27’s and the results are below. All numbers are GPS and achieved on mirror-flat water with temps in the high 80’s:
Old 25’s: 2500rpm – 33.5mph 3000rpm – 41.5mph 3500rpm – 49.3mph 4000rpm – 58.5mph 5200rpm – 74.8mph New 27’s 2500rpm – 33.5mph 3000rpm – 43.5mph 3500rpm – 53.2mph 4000rpm – 60.5mph 5000rpm – 77.2mph I obtained the new numbers without activating my OTIS311 Turbo (AKA engine cover opened 2”). Someday I will use my OTIS311 Turbo but not today. I guess I’ll settle for these numbers. It would have been great to see 78 since 78 can be rounded up to 80 for bragging purposes. Oh well, perhaps with the OTIS deployed. |
We've been doing some testing on a buddies 29 and mirage 27 are the fastest at 80 on gps at 5300 26 bravo 77 on gps at 5240 and 28 bravo at 77 at 4800 rpm this is with twin 500 efi's
