What drive is this?

I just got this boat and the people that sold it didnt know anything about it. I am new to all this and just now trying to figure out what is what.....

Does anyone know if that is a Bravo 1 XR? If not what is it? One of the drives does not come up, so I need to figure out why and find parts for it.

Thank you in advance.

What year is the boat? It's probably just a regular Bravo given the vintage of the motors.

Regardless, all the drive/trim parts are the same for ALL of the Bravo setups unless it has ITS (which that setup does not).

My guess is it's a solenoid on the trim pump in side the engine compartment, but it could be something else in the trim system; wiring, pump, lines, actuators, etc. etc.

LOOKS like a regular Bravo drive, if you look on the front and sides of the drive, you should be able to find a serial or part number

What drive is this?

Thank you for the quick replies.

The boat is a 2001 Advantage Victory 32ft.

The back of the drive says : OL874837
The side of the drive says : OL473621

Does that mean the lower section was replaced?

Check out those two sites above. You should be able to figure out what the drive is with those S/Ns.

HOWEVER, they could have different components IN the drive. But the S/Ns are a great place to start.

Looks like it falls in the middle of this pack:

Serial number OL874837 is a 2000 MERCRUISER HIGH PERFORMANCE BRAVO TRANSOM ASSEMBLY, Model number 6511002N1.

Serial number OL473621 is a 1999 MERCRUISER PERFORMANCE DRIVE BRAVO 1 1.50:1, Model number 5C31200LS. Notice your water pick up is only at the nose cone area of the drive and not on the sides of the lower unit.

Here is a link to your parts for your set up, The link will cover both serial numbers above.

What happens when you try to raise the drive? Pump runs, doesn't run, etc. Could be a lose wire, bad solenoid, bad pump, bad rams, hyd leak in the line, give us some more info.

twoforone 03-04-2011 03:40 PM

I will check it out and post tomorrow. Thank you.

Any help with SN#OK092486,(off flame arrestor) no sticker SN. Drive ratio or Hi Per? 1997 271 Formula Fastech HP500. Did not mean to hijack, other threads are asking same questions. I'm reading that Fastech's came with 1.65 only? I've been told mine is a 1.5 based off SN. ????

XR will have a large propshaft too. 1 1/4" vs the standard 1"

Serial number OK092486 is going to be a 1997 MERCRUISER BI-ROTATION BRAVO 1 1.50:1 Model Number 5120150KS.

This was a standard drive unit when it was new.

Bad solenoid?

Ok, I finally had a chance to get under there and play with the drives. When I try to put them down, port side goes down, but the starboard just clicks and doesnt move. If I put my finger on the upper solenoid (starboard side), I can feel it clicking. When I go to put the drives up, they both move and seem to work fine. Got fluid in both sides, and pressure in all the lines. Both pumps run (pretty loud).

Sounds like I just need to change the upper solenoid (which controls the UP motion) and leave the lower solenoid (which I assume controls the DOWN motion). Please let me know if I am on the right track.

This is what I think I need to buy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/18-58...ssoriesQ5fGear

Swap the wires on the solenoids to isolate exactly which component is bad.

twoforone 03-13-2011 06:51 PM

Just changed the solenoid and everything is working just great. All the help is much appreciated.

These drives have hinge pins instead of trim senders. That makes them HP units. I could be wrong but from the picture it loks like it.

vinzimarine 03-13-2011 07:54 PM

it should be an xr. it has hinge pins. that means it is an hp unit

PremierPOWER 03-13-2011 08:24 PM

Vinzi,

I am pretty sure that you can bolt any Bravo onto an HP transom, including a Blackhawk (that one I know for sure). So the serial number tells all.

Really? Regular Bravo 1's don't have hinge pins?

PremierPOWER 03-14-2011 06:31 PM

You have to match up yoke, gimbal bearing, and engine coupler ... so they are not necessarily directly interchangeable. The hinge pin is in the transom assembly. You can also modify a standard transom with the HP hinge pins ... the parts you will need depends on the vintage of the transom assembly.

Pretty sure … so if you really want to know, better repost in the drives forum. I am pointing this out just so you realize that just because you have HP hinge pins, doesn’t necessarily mean that you have an XR drive.

I installed an HP transom on my Black Hawk. It has been a while, but I think that I upgraded the yoke and engine coupler.

Andy
