RPM drop after installing drive with nose cone

I noticed almost a 1000 rpm drop after installing a different Bravo drive with a nose cone. I don't know the speed drop because there is no speedo hole in the nose cone. Prior speed was 68.

I have seen comments about losing speed with a nose cone, is a 1000 rpm drop to 4000 sound like it might be from the increased drag?

Todd...Sounds like a lot of rpm to drop with only a nose cone. It is not unusual to loose a couple of hundred on the top end because the water flow is better to the prop and it bits harder, reducing rpm. Mercurys gear case is good up to about 80-85 mph before you start to experience any significant slip due to water delamination on the gearcase. Even if it wasnt perfectly straight, Im not sure you would loose 1000 rpm. Same prop, and gear ratio?

I agree with Beak. Check for different Gear Ratio.

Beak Boater and RickR,

You are correct. The drive ended up being a 1.36 to my suprise.

So, anyone need a 1.36 ratio Bravo with a WPM nose cone?:D

I think I got a line on a 1.50 drive.
