Adjusting Throttle Linkage 454 Mpi
Could you guys help me. I have a buddy that has 454 MPi's and needs to adjust the throttle linkages. The guy he bought he boat from had them turned down so it will only turn 4100 RPM's. Is it as simple as backing off that little nut then threading more cable out? Thanks.

That's what the guy said. I'm cluless on mpi.
If the throttle body is opening all the way, the boat is not going to run right anytime you push it to WOT. Its a 98 29 outlaw with 23p mirage + props. mpi's should turn 4600, right? and with this small of a prop it should hit that easy. |
Here is an easy way to check MPI motors for full throttle. Take off the flame arrestor, it is held on by a couple of small torx screws ( I think t-15) . With the engine off, put the stcks into full throttle position and look inot the throttle bodies. The butterflies should be wide open.

got that. but if they are not, where is the adjustment made?
thanks. |
I can't swear to this because I have never done it. But, I think that on my motor I remember seeing an adjustment clamp on the end of the cables housing by the intake manifold.

we'll look for it this weekend. thanks :)

If you are ONLY adjusting the cables' length of travel to get full throttle, then it will not effect the t.p.s. setting. Just don't mess around with the minimum air adjustment. That controls the angle of the butterflies at idle, it will change the t.p.s. settings along with a host of other problems you will encounter.

was not planning on touching the TPS. If it gets that detailed, my buddy can haul it over to the mechanic. i'll be boating. :p
