Clearancing rockers for valve covers
I had to purchase some new rockers for my 500efi and ended up buying the original Crane gold rockers. A few of the factory rockers have the corners removed for valve cover clearance. What's the best way to clearance my new rockers? Can I just use a vertical belt sander or will the heat affect the alloy? Should I spend the time to remove it in the mill? Or am I just over thinking this? I wasn't sure if there was a heat treating or temper I needed to preserve.

The NEW style Cranes Golds should clear. If they are the older style, then I see no reason a belt sander wouldn't work. I would just tape off around the bearings so no metal flakes can make their way in. It really shouldn't get that hot.

The belt sander works great. That's how I do it. As Griff said, I cover the rest of the rocker with tape to keep the metal out of the bearings.
