On Big Blocks, you almost always have to "play" with the guide plates as you tighten the studs in order to keep them aligned properly. When you put the head back on, loosen the studs and see if you can move the guide plate around until both rockers are aligned pretty good. I have seen some bad enough from GM that you have to "tweak" the guide plate to make it line up right. Have even had to cut the guide plates in half, align them and then TIG weld them back together, especially on some of the older aftermarket heads
